From the President of Brazil to an Olympic Gold Medalist, this year's award recipients were very impressive. Not only for their remarkable achievements, but also for the visibility and awareness their work and professions bring to the LGBT community worldwide. We celebrate and thank them once again.

Here are this year's IGLCC award recipients:

LGBT Organization of the Year

At last year's Congress, the Company Pride Platform became one of our newest members. In a very short period of time, their enthusiastic support to the LGBT business community and their strong work with corporations and governments has impacted the lives of many LGBT people.

Ever since, through its constant implication in our initiatives and proactive position on promoting the Index and all other IGLCC programs, it has fortified our presence at the international level and giving us much visibility within the companies that make its platform.

International Corporation of the Year

As a visionary, KPMG's support of the International Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce comes in at a time where, despite the economic crisis, the understanding of the relevance of equal policies and practices is an international urgency. We see this understanding as being essential for corporations to succeed in working with the LGBT community, and KPMG, with its participation and support for the International Business Equality Index tells us that they continue developing such remarkable corporate qualities. We applaud their vision and support on what we believe to be at the core of our mission.

International Leadership Award

For the exceptional leadership shown by the government of Brazil in organizing in 2008 a national LGBT conference, the very first in a South American country, we give this year's International Leadership Award to His Excellency Mr. Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. With the conference, His Excellency has made a great contribution as being the first nation leader to launch a conference with the sole purpose of promoting LGBT equality. The outcomes have been numerous and important. It also led to the creation of the Brazilian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce a few weeks ago.

International Awareness Award

When we put together a multi billion-dollar industry, the most visible sporting event in the globe and the winner of a gold medal we see the perfect opportunity to create awareness about almost any issue. Matthew Mitcham, the gold medal winner for the 10m platform diving in last year's Beijing Olympic Games has done just that, created incredible awareness in the world by excelling as an athlete and beyond sports by being visible. This visibility it is extremely important so that LGBT people can be seen as equals in today's society. Having such models inspires us to be the best that we can be as well.
